Every
day, progressive and new business ventures have photography requirements
- It
may be a photo portrait that's needed of company directors and
staff, photos of products, pack-shots and business premises for
brochures, advertising and publicity, for a press release, shareholder's
reports, various printed projects, or for a website.
|
PhotoAltering.co.uk
can supply all these needs.
Sometimes
your company may already have the right photo for a current need,
but it may be unsuitable for technical reasons such as the wrong
size, colour, or it may be damaged or of inferior quality.
In
cases such as these, we can repair or improve existing photos,
make them like new, resize or enhance them to suit the current
purpose.
With the increased use of digital sources of photography, many
users become confused over issues such as resolution, colour profiling
and printing size, and with good reason - It is confusing!
But we can sort it out for you.

This
is an excellent, professionally taken photographic portrait, well
lit, well posed and styled and well suited to the commercial publicity
purposes for which it was obviously intended. The subject, a professional
singer, exudes a sparkling and engaging self-assurance and evokes
a response of confidence in her professionalism as an entertainer.
However,
after scanning and conversion to digital format, this potentially
excellent picture had became dull and lifeless, and the resolution
was much too high for one of its intended uses as a website illustration.
Previous incorrect attempts to improve it had also resulted in
oversharpening that had introduced grainy interference patterns
across parts of the image, which would have made it unsuitable
for printout as a large, lifesize portrait.
|
We
de-focussed it, re-adjusted the colour and contrast and rebuilt
the damaged areas, namely the eyes, which in the original had
lost 'depth' due to over-sharpening. This required sharpening
and re-colouring of individual pixels instead of en-bloc
The
subject's complexion was good, but again, due to incorrect oversharpening
of the original, it had been made to look slightly blotchy. We
thus used a smoothing operation and touched up the makeup exactly
as if applying real makeup to a real face. We can eradicate
blemishes such as scars, spots and inoculation marks, however,
although we could have removed the mole on the subject's shoulder,
we chose to leave it alone as a striking, natural 'beauty spot'.
Finally, before reducing the resolution to the appropriate size
requirement, we added a coloured, graduated background to add
a pleasant dynamism and greater depth to the picture.

To
tree, or not to tree? That was the question here - An empty
property, an overgrown garden, new local car parking restrictions
enforced by the town council, and planning permission from
a new owner for a concrete driveway in a leafy suburb. The
conclusion?: Local residents tell council - "We want
our gardens back!"

about the Commercial pricing scale:
|
- Note:
Photoaltering.co.uk retains copyright on all created photographically-altered
work which we produce for you. It is for these copyright reasons
that we operate the two pricing scales, one for non-commercial,
and another for commercial work.
- Non-commercial
commissions include almost any photo alterations required for
private use. This is because private-use commissions are generally
'one-offs', ie they usually require the supply of only one copy
of any item of photographic alteration-artwork we supply to
you. Although we still retain copyright of the created image,
we do not charge anything extra for your rights to reproduce
the work, as in general, it is not expected that the client
would need or wish to mass-reproduce the work.
- Under
this non-commercial, private single-use tariff, we do in fact
allow mass reproduction of the item at no extra charge under
certain circumstances, such as for the printing of many copies
of a party invitation or personal Christmas card. These we deem
as 'private use'.
- However,
clients desiring rights to reproduction of the work for commercial,
business or advertising purposes are subject to slightly higher
fees levied in exchange for your extended reproduction rights
for commercial purposes, although PhotoAltering.co.uk, as creators
of the work, will still retain copyright.
- Note:
We never sell or otherwise release our ownership of the copyright
on our artwork outright.
We only sell licence to reproduce the artwork in pre-specified
quantities and purpose.
This
is standard practice in the photographic and commercial art
industries.

The
PhotoAltering.co.uk commercial pricing scale is itself a two
tier tariff structure, 'Corporate' or 'Retail':
-
CORPORATE
TARIFF
If
the intended use of the altered photographic artwork we supply
is to be reproduced as in-house business stationary, such
as business cards, letterheads, in-house presentations, corporate
Christmas cards, printed promotional flyers and advertisements,
press advertisements, as illustrations for commercial Internet
website use, or printed on promotional give-away items such
as T-shirts, mugs, calendars
etc, add 30 percent to the net price
of the standard non-commercial tariff.
Note that PhotoAltering.co.uk, as creators of the work, will
still retain copyright.
Artwork used on promotional give-away items or on the Internet
must bear the words (albeit in small print) "Original
artwork Copyright ©Photoaltering.co.uk 2003"
-
RETAIL
TARIFF
If
the intended use of the altered photographic artwork we supply
is to be reproduced for sale or distributed in any other fashion
so as to result in the client's direct profit (or the profit
of third parties known to or associated with the client) as
a resaleable object (artistic or otherwise) in its own right,
or as part of one, add 150 percent
to the net price of the standard non-commercial
tariff.
PhotoAltering.co.uk, as creators of the work, will still retain
copyright. A copyright licence granting permission to reproduce
the work in a fixed, pre-agreed quantity and fashion will
be granted. Permission to reproduce the work in larger quantities,
or additional batches, or in a different fashion, may attract
a higher fee and must be renegotiated as a separate contract.
Artwork used in this way must bear the words "Original
artwork Copyright ©Photoaltering.co.uk 2003"
In
good faith, we cordially request that commercial clients consult
fully with us before embarking on intentions to resell artwork
produced by Photoaltering.co.uk.
We are flexible and open to free and fair negotiation of special
rates and bespoke arrangements to the mutual benefit of all
parties.
