As sometimes happens, there was a disappointing lack of decent quality source material available to build a 'King And I' poster, so we had to build up our own. The original poster was hand-painted and really too abstract to be able to blend a recogniseable person's face into.
It was also the wrong shape - horizontal and long, whereas we needed it in vertical portrait format. Frankly, we were really stuck... ...Until after deep searching (part of the service that you pay for) we finally found this lovely publicity still of Debs Kerr:

We knew it wouldn't be easy - The big challenge was making our girl look she was behind the veiled curtain. Not as easy it sounds. But the final result was very rewarding. We love a good pixel fight!
The colors are intentionally strong and gaudy. We wanted it to have that tacky 1950's Technicolor look.

We don’t just stick a new photo of your face into the old poster. As these examples show, we carefully blend it to match, reshaping and rebuilding clothing detail and hairstyles as necessary, adjusting light and shadow to match, and we also enhance skin, teeth and eyes to give you that same movie star sparkle that the rest of the original actors on the poster have. We also carefully match the texture and color of the print tone and film grain of the original poster to help more seamlessly blend the new face into the old poster.
Then there’s the lettering: We don’t just type it in. We generally rebuild the main title, actors names, and much of the credits lettering to incorporate the new name you want on the poster, (note that for client's privacy, the names have been smudged out in the examples on this page).
And we don't just use any old lettering – We search for and then match the exact fonts used on the original poster as closely as possible, and/or match the font and design style to the cultural period of the movie. Sometimes there is no matching font, so we cut up and rebuild the existing original lettering by hand and rebuild it to form the new letters required. But we don’t stop there: New fonts just dropped onto an old poster stick out a mile, so we actually distress (age) the new lettering to match the apparent age of the rest of the poster so that it seamlessly blends in.
These posters aren't jokes, and they aren't disposable: They are investments, serious works of art fit to be framed and treasured as family heirlooms, and we never consider one of our movie posters to be finished unless it would be good enough to hang outside a cinema or be published in a magazine or newspaper to advertise an actual real movie.

(*Why are the poster heights exact, but the widths approximate? Because the original movie posters come in a variety of slightly differing proportions of height and width, and we don’t know what movie you’ll choose yet. So we just guarantee the height at your choice of 36 or 59 inches tall, and your poster’s width will be whatever the proportion of the original poster size is to that)
